Why We Help

Children with Heart disease such as cardiomyopathy often require care at specialized centers. They may be admitted for extended stays and frequent follow up visits are often necessary. As a result, families typically incur costs that are not reimbursable or covered by insurance plans, such as travel, lodging, childcare for other children, personal expenses such as meals and countless other expenses. They maybe also challenged with lost wages due to time away from work. In addition to the financial burden, many families also experience emotional crisis as their lives are turned upside down and they worry about their child’s health and well being. Hearts for Emma supports select projects for the pediatric cardiac ICU at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital that we feel will be most impactful to help families in crisis as a result of having a child with heart disease.
